Position Summary:In conjunction with the CYFS (Child, Youth and Family Services) Health Coordinator, implements and supervises the operation of the health and safety services area for the Migrant and Seasonal Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Early Head Start programs. Has working knowledge of the Migrant and Seasonal Head Start program and philosophies and works with staff, families, and community agencies to improve childrenA?s health and well:being. This is an 11 month position (January:November). Responsibilities and Duties:1. Has knowledge of the Migrant and Seasonal Head Start and California Child Care Licensing Performance Standards and Regulations.2. Ensures that the CYFS Health and Safety content area is in compliance with all pertinent regulations.3. Has knowledge of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) immunization schedule for children ages 0:5yrs, and the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostics and Treatment (EPSDT) schedule.4. Monitors childrenA?s immunization status and health records for children birth to five years of age to ensure that all health and dental requirements are up:to:date. Follows up with the appropriate staff member to ensure that all health requirements are up:to:date.5. Monitors data entry into ChildPlus, including health data, immunizations, heights and weights, and informing family services advocates, family child care specialists when child records have expired. Runs ChildPlus reports as needed to monitor and follow:up with staff members.6. Assists with the development, revision and implementation of health and safety procedures for CYFS programs. Provides ongoing training to all CYFS staff on the health and safety policies and procedures.7. In conjunction with the Health Coordinator, develops and provides trainings to CYFS staff on topics related to the health content area.8. Performs data entry as needed. Prints and emails ChildPlus reports for the centers, area managers, family child care specialists, and program coordinators, as well as other CAPSLO staff per assignment or as needed.9. Trains staff individually and in group:settings on ChildPlus software applications, reporting systems and policies and procedures.10. Communicates with the Health Coordinator to assure that all records are correct and up to date.11. Conducts frequent site visits to child care centers and family child care homes throughout the program year as needed using the current Office of Head Start Health and Safety protocol to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the health and safety policies and procedures.12. Observes children in classroom and family child care home settings, giving particular attention to possible illness or safety concerns. Performs site visits at child care centers and family child care homes in several different counties in CA.13. Assists the Health Coordinator with responding to Internal Referrals for children with special health conditions, tracking and follow:up with staff.14. Participates in the CYFS Case Review meetings.15. Orders, distributes and maintains inventory of health supplies as needed.16. Performs a variety of administrative tasks as needed, including but not limited to: word processing (memorandums, agendas, minutes, reports), filing, copying, mailing, and processing insurance claims.17. Accompanies staff members on home visits when needed, i.e.; health and safety issues in a home.18. Assists Health Coordinator in promoting pre:natal education to expectant parents.19. Assists Area Managers and Center Supervisors with responding to health/dental emergencies.20. Perform hearing screenings, vision screenings, and blood pressures when needed. Provides trainings on how to perform hearing and vision screenings to CYFS staff members when needed.21. Attends staff meetings, conferences, trainings and/or workshops related to job duties.22.
